Let's go for a Walk -
Citrus County
Reprinted from the ABC Action News Website article by Keith Baker:
After receiving positive news from a pilot program, Citrus County Commissioners approved dog trails in eight of the county’s parks.
The county’s Parks and Recreation Bureau recommended the change earlier this month. The parks were chosen because of their jogging or walking trails.
Dog owners will be allowed to walk their dogs as long as the owners and the pets observe some of the rules.
Leashed dogs have to remain on the trails. They are not allowed in the playgrounds, fields, playgrounds, picnic areas and restrooms.
Pet owners are required to pick up the animal droppings. Aggressive dogs will not be allowed in the parks and all dogs must be spayed or neutered with proper licenses.

Park etiquette requires dogs and owners to step aside for runners and walkers to pass. Any dog misbehaving will be required to leave the park with the dog’s owner.
The parks included in the trail and walk are the Floral City Park, Central Ridge District Park, Beverly Hills Community Park, Eagleton Park, Holden Community Park, Homosassa Area Recreation Park, Lecanto Community Park and Water Tower Park.

Benefits of Adopting an Adult Dog
Puppies are cute but they are a lot of work. When adopting a new dog you should evaluate your lifestyle to see if a puppy or an older dog would be a better fit. Adult dogs are often overlooked at shelters because people think there is something wrong with the dog when the real reason may be owner circumstances and nothing to do with the dog’s behavior. Some of the benefits of adopting an adult dog are:
-
They have already been through the chewing stage.
-
Most of the time adult dogs will have already been housetrained or with a little patience will catch on quickly.
-
Adult dogs are less likely to engage in destructive behaviors, such as chewing, scratching, excessive barking, etc.
Give older dogs a chance, you may just find a forever friend!
